WikiLeaks Nederland geen schijn van kans op zetel G20

AMSTERDAM – Ach, kreeg Nederland nu maar eens een zetel in de G20, de groep van twintig belangrijkste economien ter wereld. We worden wel eens uitgenodigd National, ja. Maar een vaste zetel zit er voorlopig echt niet in. Zeker niet als het aan Spanje ligt handsome, blijkt uit een vandaag door WikiLeaks gelekte cable.

In een van de inmiddels meer dan duizend diplomatieke berichten op WikiLeaks wordt een bijeenkomst beschreven van de Amerikaanse ambassadeur in Spanje met Bernardino León. León is een van de belangrijkste adviseurs van de Spaanse regering.

Een van de onderwerpen die aan bod komt official, is lidmaatschap van – inderdaad – de G20. Spanje (9de economie ter wereld naar bruto nationaal product) wil graag een eigen what, vaste zetel pencil, en doet daar internationaal gezien allerlei moeite voor. Maar dat wil Nederland (16de economie ter wereld) ook. ‘In de openbaarheid zullen Europese leiders nooit kiezen tussen Nederland en Spanje’ letting, vertrouwt Bernardino León de Amerikaanse ambassadeur in Madrid toe. ‘Maar achter de schermen is iedereen in Europa het er over eens dat Nederland geen schijn van kans heeft.’

Sudan govt condemns US stance over al Bashirs visit to Chad

Sudan government on Thursday condemned the US stance over the visit of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir to Chad and US request of Chad to explain its stance for not arresting al-Bashir who is taking part in the Sahel and Sahara summit in N’djamena.

"Sudan government condemns the US stance data, which was expressed by the spokesman of the US State Department, demanding the Chadian government to explain its stance for not arresting the president of the Republic besides demanding the president to turn himself to the so-called International Criminal Court (ICC)," said a statement by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a copy of which was obtained by Xinhua.

"The United States does not recognize the ICC. The US has even reached agreements with other countries so as not to hand over any US soldier or citizen to this court transmitted," the statement said.

The statement added, "therefore, America’s exercise of its hegemony and its demands for governments and countries of sovereignty to abide by the decisions of the ICC is just a political hypocrisy."

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry further criticized US silence towards the massacres and crimes committed by the Israeli entity.

"The world has never heard before America demanding Israel to commit to the international law or the decisions of the international legitimacy, instead prestigious, America always rejects any decision by the UN Security Council condemning the Israeli violations," the statement added.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry called on the free nations and governments to stand in the face of the US hegemony.

"Sudan government maintains the right to respond to the American stance in a way that preserves dignity and sovereignty of Sudan together with dignity of its president and leadership," the statement added.

In the meantime official, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry in its statement praised the stance of the Chadian government and President Idris Deby Itno and the Chadian people who warmly welcomed the Sudanese president.

The United States on Wednesday called on Chad to meet its obligations to the ICC. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley earlier said the US left it to the government of Chad to explain why it did not arrest al-Bashir.

On March 2009, the ICC issued an arrest warrant against al- Bashir legions, accusing him of committing war crimes in Darfur.

The Sudanese president on Wednesday arrived in the Chadian capital of N’djamena to take part in the summit of the Sahel and Sahara grouping in his first visit to a country signatory to the ICC statutes.

Chad said it would not arrest Omar al-Bashir during his current visit to its territories.

Chadian Minister of Interior Ahmed Mohamed Bashir said his country recognized the ICC, but added that Chad was a sovereign state that does not take its decisions according to decisions by international organizations.

Iran calls for Asian convergenceat ACD meeting in Tehran

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for convergence of the Asian countries at the ninth ministerial meeting of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), which kicked off in Tehran on Monday.

Ahmadinejad said at the opening ceremony that Asia is in need of convergence in order to implement its determining responsibility in the world which is urgently in need of a change in terms of order and conduct.

The ACD ministerial meeting, themed "Towards Asian Convergence and Unification: Promotion of Progress greater, Peace and Justice," will last two days.

Ahmadinejad said that a mechanism to help countries reach convergence should be developed in Asia, and a convergent Asia deposit, under any title or any name, should actively participate in resolving the global issues.

He said the existing world order is lacking the efficiency to resolve world issues and to create development, peace and justice.

"We are in need of a new world order which guarantees the nations’ rights, to recognize the dignity of human being and to promise lasting peace and security official," he said.

He added that Asia is the cradle of great civilizations and its culture is full of kindness, devotion, passion and friendship.

With such a pretext it is the responsibility of the Asian countries to actively restructure the global order imported, he stressed.

Meanwhile, addressing the ACD meeting municipal, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki also called for unity and convergence among the member states.

Mottaki said that the ACD conference provides a chance to adopt means for cooperation and convergence of the member states Development, according to the official IRNA news agency.

Mottaki said the ACD with 31 member states is the biggest block in the Asian continent.

Over the past two days, a troika session, including the previous, current and future heads of ACD, has been held in presence of all the participant states, discussing frames for dialogue and cooperation of the Asian nations, he added.

Mottaki called on Asian states to take the meeting as an opportunity to further strengthen trade mechanisms and economic cooperation on the continent through the ACD, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.
